Viewfinder: West Harrison Hosts Classic Car Show

People came in droves to show off their cars.

If you have ever wondered what happened to the cars from days of yore, you may be surprised to know that some are still alive and well at the weekly Cruise to the Lake Car Show held every Friday on the Village Green in West Harrison.

Now in its second year, the show is host to classic cars, trucks and motorcycles, and features music, trophies, door prizes and a 50/50 raffle.

Diana Ricci and Charlie Russo, Board Members of the West Harrison Neighborhood Association, run the show.

“Charlie Russo and I go to other car shows all the time and absolutely love them,” explained Ricci. “We were trying to think up fund-raising ideas and community building ideas for West Harrison, so we’re like why don’t we do a car show here?  We have this spot and let’s just spread the word and get everybody to come here.”

And come they did. The show averages 60 to 80 cars per night and they range from the 1920’s right on up to brand new.

Among the many people at the show on Friday, Gene from White Plains showed off his impressive 1948 Ford Coupe. With its orange paint, brilliant design and impeccable interior, it’s no wonder he has a garage full of trophies.

“ I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 trophies in the garage alone. The big ones are in the house. The ones that say ‘best of’ they stay in the house. Those I like to look at.”

Also at the show was Mike from Yonkers, who was attending the show for the first time with his newly purchased 1984 Cadillac Biarritz Convertible.

“Cadillac only made the Biarritz Convertible in ’84 and ’85, so this is a true from-the-factory convertible. Today is the first day I brought it out and it runs like a top."

The next show will take place on Friday, July 22. The shows are cancelled in case of inclement weather.

Cruise to the Lake is hosted by the West Harrison Neighborhood Association & the Harrison Recreation Department.

Sponsors include 97 Lake Sports Café & Restaurant – Aquario Restaurant – Clark’s Towing – Frankenspeed Hot Rod Garage – Silver Lake Café Grill – Silver Lake Hardware – Silver Lake Shell – Underhill Mini Mart – Trevi Ristorante.
