Powerball Heats up Hump Day with $235 Million Jackpot

CT Lottery expects demand for tickets to rise until Wednesday night's 10:59pm drawing. Ticket money goes to the state's general fund and is put toward public health, libraries, public safety, and education.

When no one matched the winning Powerball numbers last Saturday, the Wednesday night jackpot increased to $235 million, which reflects a $136.5 million estimated cash value, according to a release from CT Lottery.  Because demand for tickets will continue to rise until the Wednesday night drawing, CT Lottery advises players to purchase their Powerball tickets early to avoid the last-minute rush.

Since the new Powerball game began on January 15, 2012, Connecticut has sold 13 prize winning tickets each worth $1,000,000, plus another 5 tickets that were “Power Played” for the game’s $2,000,000 prize according to a CT Lottery release.

Powerball is drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:59pm. Tickets for this Powerball drawing will be available until 9:50pm Wednesday at more than 2,800 Lottery retailers statewide.

The overall odds of winning a Powerball prize are 1 in 31.8 based on a $2.00 play.  Odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 175,223,510 million, according to the release from CT Lottery who remind players, 18 or older that they should play responsibly.

According to the CT Lottery website, in fiscal year 2012, players won $659.9 million in prize money and CT Lottery provided a record $310 million to support the valuable services and programs founded by the state’s General Fund.
