Winvian Hosts CT NOFA's weekend of Food and Farms

 

MORRIS— The Connecticut Northeast Organic Farming Association invites all who are interested in experiencing local food and agriculture to two fabulous July events at Winvian resort in Morris, CT:

Both events, hosted by  CT NOFA and Winvian, will celebrate local foods and sustainable agriculture as well as the people and businesses that support them. These are must-attend events for local food enthusiasts and those who want to know more!

Join Connecticut’s two best-kept secrets, CT NOFA and Winvian, for the first event, an evening fundraiser on July 18 filled with activities guaranteed  to satisfy every locavore’s sophisticated palate. Chris Eddy, Executive Chef and founder of Winvian's food philosophy, prides himself as a culinary craftsman creating farm-to-table menus using simple, crisp and seasonal ingredients accented with unusual and fresh findings. Guests will be able to enjoy a wide variety of Chef Eddy’s signature appetizers and desserts along with the freshest tastings from Winvian’s own farm and other local farms. From 6:30pm-9:30pm guests will have the opportunity to bid on a variety of luxurious  items during our silent and live auctions, as well as witness Claire Criscuolo of Claire’s Corner Copia, New Haven receive our second annual Organic Leadership Recognition Award. Come Support CT NOFA in promoting local and organic food, farming, and gardening in Connecticut and to kick off Saturday’s family fun and educational A Summer Gathering.

 

Learn, have fun, become a food systems advocate, and return to good food traditions at the second event, A Summer Gathering: Growing Food, Farms & Community at Winvian on July 19 from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm. This all day summer event will feature interactive children's activities, educational workshops for young adults on new food related career opportunities, and keynote addresses by Joan Dye Gussow, Professor Emeritus at Columbia University, long-time organic gardener and writer,  and Richard McCarthy, Executive Director, Slow Food USA. Workshop presenters include Tara Cook- Littman of  GMO Free CT & ConnFact and Taylor Cocalis-Suarez, Co-founder of Good Food Jobs. The event will also feature updates from public officials and advocacy information. Guests will be able to enjoy food from their favorite food trucks, browse local vendors and exhibitors and enjoy the grounds at Winvian.

Advance reservations are a must. Tickets for Friday’s A Special Culinary Fundraiser are on sale now; purchasers of 10 or more tickets will be recognized as a Premium Sponsor. Tickets for Saturday’s A Summer Gathering are also on sale, with special scholarships available for students, interns, apprentices and beginning farmers.
