SWBOCES Conference to Offer Training for Local Teachers on Common Core Literacy Standards

Teachers from across the Southern Westchester region are being encouraged to participate Aug. 6 in an SWBOCES-sponsored day of literacy training and collaboration, with the intention of acquiring best practices as they apply to the Common Core State Standards in Literacy K-8.

The half-day professional development opportunity is part of the "Literacy Jubilee" conference being sponsored by the BOCES Center for Professional Development and Curriculum Support.

The free event, to be held at the BOCES offices in Harrison, will include a variety of workshops on multiple aspects of the Common Core in literacy. Some will include strategies for reading fluency and comprehension, writing across genres, research skills and note taking, performance assessment and using technology to enhance reading, in addition to writing instruction.

Teachers from the Greenburgh, Mount Pleasant and Tarrytown school districts will lead the workshops.

The event will start at 8:30 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. For more information, contact Amy Cazes, supervisor of literacy and learning at BOCES, at 914-922-3165 or at acazes@swboces.org. To register, go to My Learning Plan at https://www.mylearningplan.com/WebReg/ActivityProfile.asp?D=12439&I=1595867
