MANHATTANVILLE COLLEGE CELEBRATES POP, CHORAL, CABARET AND OPERA MUSIC IN PERFORMANCES THIS APRIL AND MAY

Purchase, NY, April 10, 2014 -- “Music at Manhattanville,” a highly popular series of musical programs designed for the enjoyment of students and the general public and sponsored by the Music Department at Manhattanville College, this spring will feature the following performances on the college’s campus at 2900 Purchase Street, Purchase, NY.
 
·     The Quintessentials, Manhattanville’s elite, highly energetic pop vocal group will perform a variety of hits, such as: Hit Me With a Hot Note, The Beat Goes On, In My Life (Beatles), Somewhere from West Side Story.  The Wednesday, April 23 performance starts at 8:00 p.m. in the Berman Students Center Theatre.

·     The Manhattanville College Chorus and Women’s Vocal Ensemble will present classical works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, Hans Leo Hassler, Joseph Haydn, Felix Mendelssohn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Franz Schubert.  The Sunday, April 27  performance is at 4:00 p.m. in the Berman Students Center.

·     The Manhattanville College Cabaret Performance Workshop will delight the audience with the songs of Frank Loesser from his perennially popular musicals such as  Guys and Dolls, The Most Happy Fella and  How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.   The Tuesday, April 29 performance is at 8:00 p.m. in the West Room in Reid Hall. 

·     Manhattanville College students will sing scenes from classic operas and operettas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Carl Maria von Weber, Franz Lehar, Englebert Humperdinck, Johann Strauss II and Richard Wagner, accompanied by a chamber orchestra.  The evening is hosted by renowned opera dramaturge, Cori Ellison and is made possible by a grant from the Westchester Community Foundation.  The Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3 performances are at 8:00 p.m. in the Little Theatre, Brownson Hall. 

All performances are free of charge, except for a $10 general admission and $5 student and senior citizen fee at the choral concert on April 27.   For further information, please call the Music Office Monday through Friday at 914.323.5260.
