HHS Debate Team Captures To SIx Winners at Newark Science Tournament

The Harrison High School Debate program had its most outstanding finish in its short history at the Metro-Hudson League Tournament at Newark Science Park High School before the holiday break.  Harrison entered eight students in this tournament featuring JV and novice competitors in Lincoln Douglas Debate and won 1st through 6th place and all eight students were named top 10 speakers.

After four rounds of competition in a field of 56 debaters, Harrison had six undefeated debaters.  Results were:

Sophomore Amy Geller – Tournament Champion and Top Speaker

Freshman Sarah Ryan – 2nd place and 4th Speaker

Freshman Elyssa Alfieri – 3rd place and 5th Speaker

Freshman Ella Eisinger – 4th Place and 6th Speaker

Freshman Kathryn Kenny – 5th Place and 8th Speaker

Freshman Bea Almeida – 6th Place and 9th Speaker

Freshman Evan Burger – 10th Place and 7th Speaker

Freshman Constantinos Staten- Tournament’s 2nd Place Speaker

The Harrison Debate team will look to continue its dominance in high profile events at several local, regional and national tournaments from Byram Hills to Columbia and Harvard in the months ahead. 

Varsity Debater Junior Danny DeBois will be competing at the Montgomery Bell Academy Round Robin in Nashville, a tournament reserved for the top 12 competitors in the nation.  Danny is currently ranked the #1 Lincoln-Douglas Debater in the Country by the National Forensic League.
