Today in Harrison: Primary Elections; the Harrison Architectural Board Meets; and Devil Wears Prada Author Speaks at Manhattan College

  • Primaries are today. Locally, Mamaroneck’s Tom Murphy and Rye’s Catherine Parker, will face off in today's primary for the Democratic line in the race for District 7 of the Westchester County Board of Legislators. A  Q &A with Parker can be found here  and a Q&A with Murphy can be found here.  Democrat Benjamin Boykin II is running on the independence line for the District 5 seat on the Westchester County Board of Legislators and Democrat Mark Jaffe is running on the independence line for county District 6 in opportunity to ballot write-in contests. District 5 encompasses Harrison, Scarsdale and White Plains; District 6 encompasses Harrison, Port Chester and Rye Brook; and District 7 encompasses Harrison, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, New Rochelle and Rye. Harrison Councilman/Trustee Joseph Cannella is also running in an opportunity to ballot write-in contest for the conservative line.   • The Harrison Architectural Review Board is scheduled to meet at today 7:30 p.m. at town hall, located at 1 Heineman Pl. in  Harrison.
  • The Crowne Plaza in White Plains is hosting a grand opening ceremony for the $15 million in renovations it made to it's lobby, bar, guest suites, gym and meeting facilities. The work included  complete renovations of 402 guest rooms and suites to include all furniture, carpet, drapes, bathrooms and bedding; renovation of all guest corridors; installation of 42-flat screen televisions in all guest rooms and suites; and upgrades to bathroom amenities and fixtures.
  • New York Times bestselling author Lauren Weisberger will visit Manhattan College today at 6 p.m. to discuss her book, The Devil Wears Prada, and her career. Wiesberger's first job as the assistant to Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue, was the inspiration for The Devil Wears Prada. Her writing career has thrived with Everyone Worth KnowingLast Night at Chateau Marmont, and Chasing Harry Winston also making The New York Times bestselling list. The talk wil take place in Hayden Hall, room 100. Manhattan College is located at 4513 Manhattan College Parkway in Riverdale.   • There's still time to register for the Military Career Expo on Sept. 12 in West Point, NY.  The event, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is an opportunity to meet with top companies looking to hire vets. These companies include government contractors, national corporations and local companies. The expo is free to job seekers.
